How to Choose an Interior Designer in Bangalore
The questions that separate a reliable interior studio from an expensive lesson — and the answers you should expect to hear.
Interior work in Bangalore is largely unregulated. Anyone can call themselves a studio, and the difference between a good outcome and a bad one is usually visible in the first meeting if you know what to ask.
Ask these, in this order
"Is execution in-house or subcontracted?"
The single most predictive question. Studios that only design and then hand you to a contractor have no leverage when something goes wrong. Ask who employs the carpenters. Ask who you call about a defect in month eight.
"What plywood grade and brand, in writing?"
A studio that will not name the board and the hardware brand in the quote is leaving itself room. Any competent designer answers this instantly.
"Show me the payment schedule."
Milestone-based and tied to completed work is normal. A demand for 50% or more before manufacturing starts is a cash-flow problem you are being asked to fund.
"What does the warranty cover, and for how long?"
Get the exclusions, not just the headline. Hardware, shutters, carcass and finish may each be covered differently.
"Can I visit a site you are working on right now?"
Finished project photos are marketing. A live site tells you about dust protection, material storage, worker conduct and whether the supervisor is actually there.
"Who is my single point of contact?"
If the answer involves more than one name, you will end up coordinating between them yourself.
Warning signs
- A quote produced without a site visit
- Prices that change materially after you push back
- No 3D renders before manufacturing
- Vague specification language: "premium finish", "branded hardware", "imported"
- Reluctance to put the timeline in writing
- Reviews that are all five stars, all recent, all similarly worded
What genuinely matters less than people think
Office size, how glossy the presentation is, and whether the studio has worked in your exact locality. What matters is whether the same team that quoted the job is the team that shows up.
Do the reference check properly
Ask for two clients whose projects completed 18 months ago or more, not two months ago. Everyone is happy at handover. The question is how the work looks after two monsoons, and whether the studio answered the phone when something needed fixing.
