Practical Vastu for Bangalore Apartments

Most Vastu advice assumes an independent house on a plot you control. In a Bangalore apartment the entrance direction, kitchen position and bathroom locations are decided by the builder. What follows is what you can genuinely influence during an interior fit-out.

What you usually cannot change

Main door orientation, structural walls, plumbing stacks for kitchen and bathrooms, window positions. Trying to relocate a WC or a kitchen sink across an apartment is expensive, often prohibited by the society, and sometimes structurally impossible.

What you can influence

Cooking direction

Facing east while cooking is the most commonly cited preference. Within a fixed kitchen footprint, this is often achievable by placing the hob on a different leg of an L-shaped counter — a layout decision, not a demolition.

Sleeping orientation

Head to the south or east is the usual guidance. Bed placement is entirely within your control, and wardrobe planning should follow the bed, not fight it.

Wardrobe and heavy storage placement

Heavy built-ins along south and west walls is straightforward to accommodate at design stage and costs nothing extra if planned early.

Mirror placement

Avoiding mirrors facing the bed is a simple design constraint. Wardrobe mirrors can go inside a shutter or on a pull-out instead.

Entrance treatment

A defined foyer, good lighting and a shoe unit that does not spill into the living room. This is good design regardless of belief.

Colour and light

Lighter tones in the north-east, warmer tones elsewhere, and maximising natural light. Again — sound design practice that happens to align.
